Before integrating Ally devices with Leanheat Monitor, complete these prerequisites. Taking time to set things up correctly now prevents issues during integration.
Required Access and Accounts
Ally App Access
- Ally App installed on your mobile device (iOS or Android)
- At least one Ally Home created with commissioned devices
- Admin or owner access to the Ally Home you want to integrate
Leanheat Monitor Access
- Valid Leanheat Monitor account
- Admin permissions in your Leanheat Monitor tenant
Device Commissioning in Ally App
All Ally devices must be fully commissioned in the Ally App before integration. This means:
⚠️ Complete these steps in the Ally App first:
- Gateway connected to your network and online
- All eTRVs paired and assigned to radiators
- Room sensors paired and assigned to rooms
- Repeaters installed if needed for coverage
- Devices grouped into rooms (if multiple eTRVs + sensor per room)
Critical Settings Check
Before enabling integration, verify these settings in the Ally App for each device:
1. Vacation Mode Must Be OFF
⚠️ Critical: Vacation mode must be deactivated before integration. If Vacation mode is active when you integrate, it can cause sync issues between systems.
How to check:
- Open Ally App
- Select your Home
- Check for "Vacation" mode indicator at the top
- If active, tap to disable it before proceeding
2. Set the Correct Mode for Each Device
Each eTRV must be in either Manual or Schedule mode (not Vacation). This mode gets locked when you enable integration.
💡 Choose the right mode:
- Manual mode: Use if you want to set a single temperature setpoint that stays constant
- Schedule mode: Use if you want different temperatures at different times (At Home, Away, Pause periods)
You can change setpoints and schedules in Leanheat Monitor after integration, but the mode (Manual vs. Schedule) is locked.
How to set mode:
- Open Ally App
- Select a device (eTRV)
- Tap the mode selector at the top
- Choose "Manual" or "Schedule"
- Repeat for all eTRVs
Naming Convention Setup
Plan your naming structure before integration. Clear device names make management much easier.
For Multi-Story Buildings
Recommended approach: Create one Ally Home per Building/Floor combination
Example structure:
Building A has 5 floors, each with 10 rooms, each room has multiple devices:
- Ally Home 1: "BuildingA_Floor1"
- Ally Home 2: "BuildingA_Floor2"
- Ally Home 3: "BuildingA_Floor3"
- etc.
This prevents homes from becoming unmanageably large and makes device organization clearer.
For Individual Devices
Recommended naming pattern: Building_Floor_Room_DeviceType_Number
Examples:
- "BuildingA_Floor3_Room2_eTRV1"
- "BuildingA_Floor3_Room2_Sensor"
- "Gateway_BuildingA_Floor1"
Or use a shorter format:
- "eTRV_A.3.2.1" (Building A, Floor 3, Room 2, eTRV #1)
- "Sensor_A.3.2"
How to rename devices in Ally App:
- Open Ally App
- Select the device
- Tap the settings/edit icon
- Change the device name
- Save
Room Grouping Configuration
If you have multiple eTRVs and a room sensor in the same room, group them together in the Ally App.
💡 Why this matters: When devices are grouped in a room in Ally App, they work together as one heating zone. The room sensor provides the temperature reading, and all eTRVs in that room respond to it. Maintain this same grouping in Leanheat Monitor to preserve the heating logic.
How to verify room grouping:
- Open Ally App
- Select your Home
- Check the room view—you should see devices grouped by room
- If devices aren't grouped correctly, reassign them to the proper rooms
Network Requirements
For Ally Devices
- Gateway connected to stable internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi
- Reliable wireless coverage for all eTRVs and sensors
- Repeaters installed if devices are beyond gateway range
For Access
- Internet connection for accessing Leanheat Monitor (web browser)
- Mobile device with internet for Ally App during integration
Pre-Integration Checklist
Use this checklist before starting integration:
| Task | Status |
|---|---|
| All devices commissioned in Ally App | ☐ |
| Vacation mode is OFF | ☐ |
| Each eTRV set to Manual or Schedule mode (not Vacation) | ☐ |
| Device naming convention applied | ☐ |
| Devices grouped into rooms correctly | ☐ |
| Ally Home named clearly (BuildingA_Floor1 format) | ☐ |
What Happens During Integration
Understanding what changes during integration helps you prepare:
What Changes
- Device control locks: Ally App becomes read-only for integrated devices
- Settings management: All temperature and schedule changes move to Leanheat Monitor
- Mode lock: Manual/Schedule mode becomes locked (can't switch between them)
What Doesn't Change
- Devices continue working normally
- Existing temperature setpoints remain
- Existing schedules carry over
- Room groupings stay intact
- You can still view device status in Ally App
Common Setup Mistakes to Avoid
⚠️ Avoid these common issues:
- Inconsistent naming: Mixing different naming formats makes filtering hard later
- Skipping room grouping: Individual device control when you wanted zone control
- Vacation mode active: Causes sync issues between systems
- Too many devices per Ally Home: Makes organization difficult (split into multiple homes)
- Generic device names: "Device 1", "Device 2" becomes impossible to manage at scale
Ready to Proceed?
If you've completed the checklist above, you're ready to create your Leanheat Monitor account and begin integration.
